Educational tour on Environmental Impact Assessment to Zojila Tunnel

Department of Environmental Science, Govt. Degree College, Kargil conducted an Educational tour on Environmental Impact Assessment to Zojila Tunnel East Portal on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, with a motive to get a practical and field experience of the Project Zojila tunnel. Mr Sajad Hussain and Ms Kunchok Dolma, faculty members Environmental Science accompanied the students.
They departed from the college, in morning at quarter past seven and reached their destination point, Zojila Tunnel East Portal, at 10 am where at first the students were acquainted about the Zojila Tunnel, it's tunneling processes, about the impacts it had on the environment and the mitigation measures which were taken for some of the negative impacts that could happen because of the project by Mr Yasir Arfat, Safety In charge and Mr Nisar Ahmad, Survey In charge, from the company Mega Engineering Infrastructure Limited.
They also elucidated the students with information of most of the devices used and many other important things to be kept in mind while on field. Furthermore they showed us the sedimentation tanks, and also explained about the Project Zojila Layout Plan.
The departed from their destination point at around 12:30 pm and reached Matain by 1 pm where they stopped to have lunch, and while returning back did cleanliness drive and appealed to all the public, not to throw garbage or litter around and keep the environment neat and clean.
Way back to Kargil the students were taken to Drass War Memorial where everyone sang the national anthem and paid tribute to the martyrs of the war.
Students in their feedback told that the tour was a productive one as they had a very good experience of field study along with the valuable information they were acquainted with.
The department of environmental science, GDC Kargil extended thanks to the Administration of Kargil for allowing the students to visit the site.
